Welcome to GG STEM Academy: Play-Based Learning for Every Family
If you’ve ever watched your preschooler turn a cardboard box into a rocket ship or a pile of dirt into a bug home, you already know one of life’s best-kept secrest: kids learn best through play.
I created GG STEM Academy because I want every family to feel confident giving their child a strong preschool foundation—whether you have access to a traditional preschool or not.
Why I started GG Stem Academy
In my community, there’s a shortage of preschool spots. The only two in my county are only accessible to families able to make a large commitment in tuition, or under the poverty line. Those families in the middle are left without services, or having to drive 45 minutes away to access preschool.
My husband and I went into having children knowing the plan was to homeschool. When my oldest child reached preschool age recently, I began the work to create that early learning experience at home. I began pulling together activities, research, and resources that were fun, effective, and didn’t require turning our living room into a traditional classroom.
I’m also a farmer, running GG Acres Family Run Farm, and a certified Texas science teacher (and a HUGE science nerd). I wanted a name that tied together our family, our roots, and my passion for STEM. “GG” comes from our family last name—Guerrero-Goodspeed—and STEM reflects my belief that science, technology, engineering, and math build skills for life: curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and resilience.
In Texas, homeschool is considered a private school. To create a transcript for your students, you simply have to give your “school” a name. So, I tookour business and my love for science and combined them with “Academy” (for the transcript) and tada! GG Acres STEM Academy was born.
My Philosophy
"Do not…keep children to their studies by compulsion but by play. ”
Plato, Greek Philosipher
Research shows that play-based learning is the most effective way for young children to learn. Play isn’t “just fun”—it builds the brain, strengthens social skills, and teaches kids how to think, communicate, and explore.
Children are naturally curious. When we follow their interests instead of forcing a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, we keep that curiosity alive. That’s when learning becomes a joy instead of a chore.
At GG STEM Academy, we focus on the whole child—social-emotional growth, early literacy, STEM skills, physical activity, and healthy nutrition. AND we do it all through playing! These aren’t just “subjects.” They’re life skills that help children thrive.
